Cruises aren’t necessarily known as breeding grounds for romance. You may be on the open ocean, but there are kids running everywhere, limited opportunities for privacy, and dining rooms seemingly built for cattle instead of people. So, even if you’re feeling romantic, it can be difficult to really set the mood. Still, it is possible to make cruising romantic as all get-out. You just need to think ahead and do some planning before your cruise sets sail. For the perfect romantic getaway on the open waters, consider these tips:
Upgrade your cabin. There is nothing less romantic than enjoying a fancy dinner only to return to a tiny box of a room without windows. That’s why it almost always pays to upgrade your cabin if you’re scheming for romance. The scene can set the mood either way, but you’ll have a better chance at meeting expectations if you opt for something higher-end. Upgrading to a room with a balcony can do the trick. Standing outside, staring at the moon, and enjoying a nightcap or a bottle of wine could be exactly what you need for the romance to sink in. Splurge for a few fancy dinners. Most cruise lines offer all your meals in your cruise fare with the option to “upgrade” to a few nicer restaurants if you want. On Carnival cruises, for example, you can usually fork over an extra $15-$25 per person for a meal at an upscale steakhouse, a hibachi dinner, or a meal with fresh seafood. If you’re angling for romance, splurging for a few meals away from the big buffets can help. Pre-book a surprise. Most cruise lines offer in-room gifts you can pre-order and prearrange. These gifts can include anything from a beverage package to candies or flowers in your cabin. Best of all, the cruise line will take care of the delivery of your gift so you can catch them off guard. A birthday gift, box of chocolates, or gift basket with wine could go a long way toward wooing your sweetie, so why not give it a try? Get serious about formal night. If your cruise offers a formal dinner, it’s time to get on board. Make sure both of you pack your best formal clothing, then attend the dinner as if it were a truly formal affair. Most people don’t get the chance to go formal very often, and your partner will likely appreciate the gesture—and your efforts. Book romantic or meaningful excursions. Regardless of what happens on the ship, you’ve got the opportunity to let the romance shine whenever you’re on land. Once you decide on a cruise itinerary, it’s time to get to work choosing excursions your spouse or partner will love. If he or she loves watersports, you can opt for a snorkeling or diving cruise. If your partner is into history, book a city tour or a walking tour with a historian. Whatever his or her passion is, make sure it shows in the excursions you book for the two of you. Say “yes” to the spa. On-board spas offer the perfect opportunity for romance. After all, what’s more romantic than a massage, a facial done by candlelight, or sitting in a Jacuzzi with a glass of champs? Check with your cruise line to see which spa services are available, then book the best option for your partner’s needs. If you can’t decide, it’s hard to beat a couple’s massage if romance is your goal. Source: http://bit.ly/2kjNjOP
